It’s fitting that This Many Boyfriends sound like they’re from Portland. What with Gary Jarman from The Cribs now residing there, and Ryan producing this single, they’ve further bridged the gap between Yorkshire and the American Northwest. It’s another great single this and it only ups the ante for the band’s debut album.
Popular comparisons for the band include Hefner, Orange Juice, The Wedding Present, and a spate of K Records artists from the ’90s, and whilst they display plenty of shades of these artists, they’ve updated the mold to fit their own path and their own experiences. It’s rather refreshing, such as on latest single “(I Should Be A) Communist,” which is scruffy pop as done by David Gedge if he came of age in the ’90s.
