All of the hard work is almost done, and the spring of Rhubarb Bomb is about to begin. The Wakefield zine is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a book/CD compilation entitled “The City Consumes Us”, centring around all of the great musical happenings since its birth in 2007. To celebrate the completion of the project, there is an all-day launch party tomorrow at The Orangery, starting at 3pm. Tickets on the door are £5, and it’s free for under 18s (or if you pledged to the project).
What can you expect from the day’s events? There will be performances from The Spills, Piskie Sits, Runaround Kids, Mi Mye, Imp, One Day After School…, St Gregory Orange, and The Passing Fancy, all of whom can be found on the compilation. Some will perform inside the grand building itself, others in its gardens, viaducts, and secret corners. Also, they’ve asked each band playing to perform a cover of a track by any other Wakefield band.
If you’d like to learn more about the project, please visit their Pledge Music page. Bands on the compilation include Pylon, The Research, Runaround Kids, Piskie Sits, Tiny Planets, The Spills, and up-and-comers The Cribs. Quite ace, indeed.
