When I think of R.E.M., my mind splits up their career into three distinct periods: the pre-1987 I.R.S. days, Document to Out of Time, and finally, everything after that. Whilst the band has great songs spanning all periods, their glory days truly rest in the early to mid ’80s.

London four-piece Being There uses those jangly gems as a blueprint, constructing shimmering, cracking odes to better days full of C86 outtakes.

The single “17” is out from 09/04 on Young and Lost Club. Order early to get yourself a limited edition tee. And if you’re down in the capital, the band plays the Old Blue Last (free entry) on 13/04.
