This seems like a fitting way to begin Wakefield Week.

It’s been quite a few years for Skint & Demoralised. The band’s heart and soul, Matt Abbott, has made quite the name for himself up here in the north, from his poetry nights to gigs throughout Yorkshire to getting caught up in the major label machine. Whilst his tenure with Mercury didn’t have the best of endings, we have the classic story of an indie label coming to save the day.

The band signed to Heist or Hit Records last year for the release of their second album, This Sporting Life (out today), and the rerelease of Love & Other Catastrophes. Now one of the best bands the north has seen in the last few years has been given new life, they’ve recorded some of their best music yet, perfect if you fancy The Streets, The Jam, or Dexy’s Midnight Runners. Latest single “All the Rest is Propaganda” was released on Monday last.
