AIRSHIP

Sometime in February of 2009, a colleague and I ended up at a dark basement club in the north of London. We were heading out mostly for a few pints – we weren’t too interested in who was gigging. One average band played, and when Airship took the stage, we were about to write them off. We both agreed that lead singer could use a haircut, and surely this was indicative that we were about to hear some awful funk.

I’m glad we stuck around, because Airship has been one of my favourite new finds of the past few years. The Manchester four-piece has had a steady rise since they came together in 2008. Tours with Biffy Clyro, Edtiors and Joy Formidable and playlist support on XFM and 6Music. Their debut, Stuck In This Ocean, is out now on PIAS. “Algebra,” another fuzzy-pop masterpiece, is the latest single. The ’90s are back. The sufficiently creepy video is below.
